This path was discovered by photographer Roz Joseph in the Dolomites in Italy. My message was for good friend and fellow life traveler, Jasper Riggs, who always says what this card does (in his own way): "It is what it is."

This message I wrote for me. It was 1996, and for months I'd feared, "I'll have to shut Cardthartic down." One day, I sat very still, held a hunk of grounding hematite, and asked my late father, "Dad, should I do this?" I swear, he said, "Sit there with a rock in your hand?!? No." It was so like him that I had to laugh and say, "I mean close Cardthartic." Dad asked, "Have you done everything you possibly could to keep going?" Hmm, I thought, everything? No. "Then do those things," he said. And here we are. Thank you, Dad!

This image felt just right for this message, which began as something wonderful that Chicago friend Evelyn Moore-Jones once kindly said to me. Think a 30-something Maya Angelou ~ that's how I always think of this woman full of wisdom and grace. Our paths may not have crossed in 20 years, but I always valued this adage she shared with me at just the time I needed to hear it. And how gratifying to be able to pass her soothing words on through our cards.
