BACKSTORY

Chicagoan (Marilyn) D. Clancy is the most positive person I've ever met, and her optimism is clearly reflected in her life and her writing. Going so strong at nearly 70 that "retire" seems to have eluded her huge vocabulary, she nonetheless submitted this retirement message in 2002 "just for fun." It's been going strong ever since. The card's midwestern river image is from Larry Kanfer's book, "On Second Glance."

These sheep gathered at the watering hole were corralled by photographer Larry Kanfer. I wrote the tongue-in-cheek text with Betsy Rockwell, one of our Minnesota reps, in mind. The dedication on the card back is to Betsy because she'd encouraged us a time or two (or 12) to do more Retirement cards. The design has amazing legs -- it's been in the PASSAGES line for nearly 13 years. Thank You, Betsy!
