This card message began as the wedding vows written and pledged by Julie and Brian Well, in whose wedding I served two decades ago. The picture of the just-married couple is stock, so we'll never know their names. Funny story, though: When this design first went to press back in 2002, our printing company's sharp-eyed production assistant, Angie Hawkins, noted the groom wasn't wearing a ring! "No problem," Angie insisted and, in minutes,used Photoshop to give him the one he wears now.

This message first came to me during the beautiful 2006 outdoor wedding of my niece Megan Reinhart to Craig Springer, who were barely 20 when they married. Months after, seeing this lovely stock image reminded me of my wish for the couple, and I put the two together in this card. (And what a cool surprise to later learn that orchid plants can live as long as most humans!)

This dogwood branch was photographed by Joe Oliver in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. The message, well, after being in 11 weddings, it's just what I always wish for the couple marrying. Ha! I just looked at it again now and see that -- on the original card back, which was created in 1995 -- I literally dedicated the design "To Hope."
